At the turn of the century, the widespread use of computers and the internet prompted artists to embrace new photography and video techniques. Particularly, Photoshop (PS) software significantly expanded their understanding and practice of photography, video, and image manipulation. These works not only reflect the collective emotions of this unique historical period but also serve as important witnesses to the technological revolution in media.
As the exhibition “Radical Joy:2000AD” comes to a close, we have extended a special invitation to four artists – Yu Ji, Lang Xuebo, Liu Bo, and Chen Ronghui – to hold a thematic discussion on “Internet, Photoshop, and Conceptual Photography at the turn of the century.” We hope to garner more attention and provide a different perspective for us to re-enter and comprehend this distinctive era.
