ABOUT SurplusSpace
One paragraph of short description: Surplus Space, a non-profit art space, has been developing for 9 years since its foundation in 2015. As early as its establishment, we identified a clear academic direction and developed exhibition standards. We are dedicated to accelerating cutting-edge academics at home and abroad, diversified art experiments and exhibitions, and academic researches and promotions. By means of curation, we explore the current frontier issues in social, cultural, political and artistic ecosystem fields, providing a good experimental platform and exhibition opportunities for young artists who have not yet received attention. Through interdisciplinary, cross-media and rich public art education programs, we build a platform for cultural and artistic exchanges both domestically and internationally, to promote the development of contemporary art, and create a unique contemporary art atmosphere. During the eight years since the establishment of Surplus Space, we have attracted many first-class artists and institutions in China and from other countries, including the United States, France, Britain, Belgium, Latvia for cooperation. At present, the first solo exhibitions of many young artists who are now active in the field of contemporary art in China have also harvested attention because they made a fine figure in Surplus Space. We are keen to enrich the contemporary art ecology in Central China through our continuous efforts, bringing opportunities for more outstanding curators and artists through continuous efforts.
